Meet the Tatra Hound!
A new breed of dog had its first litter of puppies.
The Tatra Hound (also called Tatras Hound), a mix of Dachshund and Slovak Hound, has been in the breeding stages for two years. Breeders believe they have finally reached perfection.
The mother to the short-legged, long-bodied animal gave birth to her first litter this week.
The black and brown puppies are bred for hunting and intelligence.
They grow to a height of about 16 inches, but are longer in the torso.

What is a Slovak Hound, you ask?
(same questions I had!)
(Slovak Hound)
It appears that the Tatra Hound is just a "short-leg" version of this dog.
Whatever the case...
Cute, cute, puppies!!!

Obie
Obie's Journey
I'm sure you've heard about Obie, the overweight dachshund.
He is a 7 year old standard dachshund. He was on a special diet to lose the weight and get back to being a happy dog.
He was rescued in 2012 after reaching a whopping 77 pounds
In a short time he lost the weight - but not the "over-stretched" skin.
In 2013 he had to have surgery to lose the extra skin
Now, 50 pounds lighter, he is a healthy, happy, 7 year old dachshund!!
Here are some "Obie Sites":

Mama Cat Nurses Baby Dachshund
This is such a sweet story about Bella - a stray cat that a family in Iowa took in that was pregnant.
Hershey, the family dachshund, was pregnant and delivered 2 puppies, and the other one had difficulty in birth. The mother and puppy sadly did not make it through the difficulty.
The family tried to bottle feed the puppies. When that was unsuccessful, they decided to try to ask the mama cat to nurse the orphaned pups. AND SHE DID!
She treats them as her own. They are 2 weeks old now, and it appears that the mommy thinks the doxies are kittens.
What a sweet story - read the full story .

Dog Reunited With Family After 16 Days
Hailey, a four-year-old dachshund-chihuahua mix, got lost after she escaped from the truck during a stop.
Local residents joined the search, with some people calling to say they'd spotted the pet and others volunteering to make missing posters or even scouring the woods themselves.
Last week the family, got another break: two different callers reported seeing Hailey. By the time the family got there, it was dark and pouring rain. But a quick search turned up their missing dog, who was hiding behind a tree.
It makes me sad, to think about what I would feel like if my sweet little Gus was lost, and I didn't know what happened to him. But, to hear that they found their pup made me happy that they found their pup.

The Happy Bride and Groom
Oh my Goodness!!!
This is the cutest video EVER!!!
When Danni Rivera and her husband Wil got a second dachshund, she suggested over a glass of wine that the two pups get married. Luckily for her, she’s a wedding photographer and videographer, so she just made a few calls to her fellow creative friends and whipped up a canine Pinterest wedding. Hudson and Chelsea tied the knot in front of all their four-legged friends.
Love is love, right?

Is This The World's Smallest Dog?
Meet 'Chip',
a dwarf dachshund who weighs
only 900g (approximately 31 oz.) and is just 5 1/2 inches tall.
Dog breeder
Emma, 24, who believes her pet could be crowned the smallest in the world,
said: "I'm pretty confident that Chip is one of the country's smallest
dogs - if not the world.
"I'll
be contacting Guinness World Records to pitch him to them."
"I read
about one of the smallest dogs called Tyson last month - and Chip is definitely
about the same size, if not smaller."
"He
eats plenty of scrambled eggs and pasta so we don't know why he's stayed so
small.
"There
were two others in his litter but while they grew he's just stayed the same
size at around three inches tall to the shoulder.
"He was
so cute I just couldn't bring myself to sell him so he's stayed with us.
"We
have to take him out on a cockatiel lead called a feather tether which is
supposed to be used for budgies.
"I've
also fashioned him a little t-shirt out of a sleeve to act as a harness for
him."
Emma says
Chip has already become a local favourite because of his size and personality.
She said:
"Everywhere we go people stop us to take pictures of him and ask why he's so small - I think
people find him a bit of a novelty especially because he's a sausage dog."
Three-month-old
Chip lives with Emma and her partner Mark Sawyer, 45, a lorry driver, as well
as seven other hounds in Tibshelf, Derbyshire.

Paws For The Cure Fundraiser
There was a
tragedy at a home for dog's: TheManchester Dog's Home in the UK. 60 dogs died in a fire that burned the
home to the ground. And, because of this tragedy - a group of dachshunds (and
their owners) got together and organized a fund raiser to help rebuild the home
A group of 16 dachshunds came together for special play
day and coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Manchester Dogs’ Home.
The canine caper was hosted by Bernie Bowling, who runs
the Sir Wagalot Dog Walking service and Slinky Dog Hotel in Heaton Moor.
All the dogs who attended usually go to Bernie for
boarding or daycare.
The four-legged guests sported ‘Paws for the Cure’
bandanas and tackled an agility course before tucking into dog cake, while
their owners enjoyed a coffee.
Macmillan believe it was the first ‘World’s Biggest Coffee
Morning’ event with a guest list entirely made up of dachshunds.
It raised £554 for Macmillan and £100 for Manchester Dogs’
Home, which was used to buy toys for the home.

Riley, The Skydiving Doxie!!
While most dogs are content to cover, at most, a couple thousand feet on
a walk, Riley the dachshund is gaining international fame for
traversing 13,000 — vertically. Riley's owner, Nathan Batiste, is a
photographer from San Francisco, Calif., who has some experience with
skydiving. He has more than 400 jumps under his belt, but he had always
wanted to bring the dachshund he and his girlfriend adopted in 2009
along for one of them.
The two frequently brought Riley to the drop zone for walks, and he became fast friends with many of the frequent skydivers. Recently, Nathan made Riley's first jump a reality. He had a friend craft a special harness and "doggles" for the 4-year-old dachshund, and all that was left was to take to the sky.
For those who might be concerned about whether falling out of the sky is the best activity for a dog, the dive went off without a hitch, and Nathan says that Riley had a blast. He told the Daily Mail, "Riley is very calm and very trusting when he's with me, and everybody got a kick out of it," adding, "It really was great fun, and the footage of Riley looking around once I'd opened the chute is awesome. It's been one of the best decisions of my life to get involved in skydiving, and I'm looking forward to more jumps with Riley."
You can watch a video of the jump here
